Dubai: A selection of Bollywood stars will join music celebrities from the Arab world in the Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness Weekend to be held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai on September 26 and 27.
Under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Social Development and Chairman of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare (GAYSW), the Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness Weekend will be held in support of diabetes awareness in the UAE.
Presented by Maven Marketing and Events, the action-packed weekend will see the NBA’s five-time Player of the Year be part of the activities planned in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. On September 26, Bryant will conduct a basketball skills clinic for kids to be held in Abu Dhabi, where participants will have the experience of getting to meet Bryant in addition to learning basketball techniques to help improve their skills.
Bryant will then be part of a celebrity match to be held at the American University in Dubai (AUD) on September 27. The American star – number 3 on the athletes earning list behind Tiger Woods and Roger Federer - will lead the team warm-up and be on the sidelines as coach during the celebrity basketball game.
Mohammad Al Mubarak, Chief Commercial Officer of Aldar; Kris Fade, popular morning show presenter on Virgin Radio; and Marwan Parham better known as DJ Bliss have already been confirmed to be on Bryant’s team.
Organisers have already started roping in stars from Bollywood and other celebrities from the Arab world for the exhibition match in Dubai. They also plan to have popular music artistes, athletes and actors from the Middle East to be part of the exhibition match.
Immediately following the celebrity basketball game, Bryant will judge a slam dunk competition consisting of the best dunkers from the region. The grand finale of the exhilarating weekend will be a lively after-party attended by the American star and celebrities in the game. Organisers are promising this event will be a once in a lifetime experience for fans as Bryant will be wearing a wireless microphone throughout the duration of the game so the crowd can hear his every word.
Fans will be able to get a glimpse into the mind of the NBA legend during the game and witness first-hand his charismatic and humorous personality. The event partners, sale of tickets, roster of celebrity game players and details of participating in the kids’ clinic will be announced in mid-August.
The GAYSW has endorsed the event as part of its ‘Sport is a Lifestyle’ campaign along with the Dubai Sports Council.
