Dubai: Indian High School recorded a clean sweep of Dubai Modern's basketball tournament.

The boys recorded a 53-40 win over Sharjah's New Indian Model School in the final, while the girls beat Millennium School 36-31.

B.S. Rithu, the Indian Basketball League's most promising player last year, guided the team to victory with a fine performance.

She was adjudged the best player of tournament, with Shubhangi of Millennium School the most promising player.

In the girls' semi-final, Rithu's team defeated Our Own High School, Sharjah 31-16 while Millennium trounced Our Own High School, Dubai 21-7.

Lifting their game

The boys had to lift their game to get the better of NIMS Sharjah. Ahraj won the best player award.

They breezed into the final with a 37-16 win over St Mary's while NIMS beat hosts Dubai Modern 44-16.

Shorye Chopra, a talented junior cricketer, was adjudged most promising player for the hosts, who clinched third in the event.

"It was heartening to watch the youngsters compete against each other in energy packed matches yet exhibit a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship," said organiser Herman Gomes.
