Dubai: The first day of competition in Dubai's inaugural High School Basketball Championship produced wins for Al Mawakeb School (AMS) and the International School of Choueifat (ISC).

AMS got the better of Jumeirah College (JC) 34-20 with the help of a towering performance by Ahmad Rahmy, who scored 20 points and controlled the game in both defence and attack. "It was a good game against a physically strong team. Fortunately we were able to stop them defensively and hurt them in the post," Rahmy said.

Second game

In the second game of the day, ISC blew away Dubai International School (DIS) with a 76-17 scoreline.

ISC showed they were early contenders for the title with a scintillating display of teamwork and athleticism. Forward Malek Al Jaber, playmaker Omar Kurdi and Marwan Chami all played key roles in the win.

The High School Basketball Championship, in association with the UAE Basketball Federation and Dubai-based sports event management company 3SM, runs until the weekend of January 20 and 21, when the final four teams will play off for the title. All games are being hosted at the Al Wasl Club Sports Complex in Dubai.
