Dubai: Al Wasl clinched the Basketball Super Cup after defeating Al Nasr 87-82 in the final held at Al Wasl Club's Rashid Bin Maktoum indoor sports hall.

Esmail Al Gergawi, the UAE Basketball Association Board chairman, presented the trophy and gold medals at the end of the match to the Al Wasl players.

Al Nasr's task was very difficult before the final. They needed to beat Al Wasl with an eight-point difference if they were to win the title. That put the team and the coach Amro Abu Al Khair under a lot of pressure. "We lost to Al Ahli before we meet Al Wasl.

That made things difficult for us in the final against Al Wasl and put more pressure on the players," Al Khair said.

Al Wasl led in the first quarter 27-25 and at half time, they had a one-point lead at 44-43. Al Nasr were affected by the absence of their skipper and best player Qasim Mohammad who was injured. Al Wasl led in the third quarter 68-62 as the Al Nasr players got desperate to reduce the margin.
