Dubai: Al Nasr clinched their first ever basketball title when they won the Vice President Cup after defeating Al Ahli 74-62 in the final held at Rashid Bin Maktoum indoor sports hall at the Al Wasl club on Sunday night.

Al Nasr players and supporters were delighted with the Vice President Cup which they have waited for years to win.

It was their first basketball title as the other teams in the club like football, volleyball, handball, table tennis, cycling and other sports clinched a lot of titles in recent years.

"Its a great honour for Al Nasr basketball team to win the first Vice President Cup. All the players showed an excellent performance and deserved to win the title, especially Qassim Mohammad the team skipper," said Amr Abulkhair the Al Nasr coach to Gulf News.

Al Ahli led in the second quarter 42-41 after the two teams were level 23-23 at the end of the first, Al Nasr led by Qassim and the two Americans Brest Lauderdail and Carl Trello, stormed back in the third quarter to advance with a 13 point difference 66-53.
