New York: Adam Rosales hit a two-run homer off Chris Capuano that bounced off the top of the left-field wall and Yovani Gallardo won for the second time since mid-April as the Texas Rangers sent the New York Yankees to their 10th loss in 11 games with a 5-2 victory Sunday.

Prince Fielder had three hits and two RBIs for the Rangers, who swept the three-game series and extended a winning streak to five for the first time since September.

Texas then headed to Cleveland, where Josh Hamilton is to start in left on Monday night. The 2010 AL MVP, who has seen sidetracked by drug and alcohol problems plus shoulder surgery, was acquired from the Angels on April 27 and will be making his first appearance for the Rangers since 2012.

New York held a pregame ceremony to retire Bernie Williams’ No. 51 and unveil a plaque in his honour in Monument Park, and then had another night of pitching and defensive struggles. The Yankees have lost six straight in a single season for the first time since May 11-16, 2011, and have 10 defeats in an 11-game span for the first time since May 23 to June 3, 1995.

In Los Angeles, Justin Upton hit a grand slam and drove in six runs and San Diego broke loose, backing unbeaten James Shields in a victory over Los Angeles.

The Padres had totalled just three runs in losing four straight games. Upton hit a slam in the first inning before Carlos Frias recorded an out and Will Middlebrooks later homered to help stake Shields (6-0) to a 9-0 lead through three.

The All-Star right-hander became the first Padres starter to win his first six decisions since 1985, when Andy Hawkins began 11-0.

New to the Padres this year, Shields allowed three runs in seven innings and struck out seven. He started a four-run burst in the second inning with a leadoff single.

Shields also went 6-0 over his first 13 starts in 2007 season with Tampa Bay. Frias (3-2) was tagged for 10 runs and 12 hits in four-plus innings.
