Arlington, Texas: Texas’ Adrian Beltre became the first major leaguer since the 1930s to notch a third career cycle as the Rangers held on for a 12-9 victory over the American League West-leading Houston on Monday.

Beltre’s rare feat of hitting a single, double, triple and homer was the day’s standout performance at the plate, while the best performance on the pitcher’s mound came from David Price in a strong first outing for Toronto, steering the Blue Jays past Minnesota.

Arizona rookie Zack Godfrey also had an impressive outing as the Diamondbacks beat Washington, while a two-run homer in the 12th inning lifted Atlanta over San Francisco.

Beltre began his day with a two-run triple in the first inning to put the Rangers ahead to stay at 3-2. He had a double in the second and a single in the third.

He completed the cycle in the fifth when he lined a homer over left field to make it 12-7.

All three of Beltre’s cycles have come at the Rangers’ ballpark, two for the home team and one as a visitor when he was playing for Seattle.

Toronto’s Price struck out 11 over eight innings to win his Blue Jays debut in a 5-1 victory against Minnesota.

Price (10-4) allowed one run and threw 119 pitches, two shy of his season high. Acquired from Detroit in a trade last Thursday, Price received a standing ovation from the sellout crowd.

Josh Donaldson hit a tiebreaking home run for the Blue Jays in the opener of a four-game series between AL wild-card contenders.

Arizona’s Zack Godley continued the stellar start to his major-league career, pitching six scoreless innings to guide the Diamondbacks past Washingotn 6-4.

Godley (3-0) became the second Arizona pitcher to win in each of his first three major league outings.

Arizona homered four times to improve to 5-2 in a lengthy 10-game road trip.

The Nationals have lost four straight and fallen a game out of the lead in the NL East.

Atlanta’s Adonis Garcia hit a two-run homer in the 12th inning to give the Braves a 9-8 win against San Francisco.

Down 6-0 going into the sixth, the Braves rallied with four runs, and A.J. Pierzynski hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth to tie it 7-7.

San Francisco’s Buster Posey hit a go-ahead single in the top of the 12th.

Jace Peterson led off the Braves 12th by reaching base on a throwing error. Ryan Vogelsong (7-7), trying to earn the first save of his 11-season career, fell behind in the count against Garcia, who homered over the center field wall.

The Los Angeles Angels ended a six-game losing skid by edging Cleveland 5-4.
