New York: Khris Davis blooped a two-run, walk-off hit with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, leading the Oakland Athletics to an 8-7 victory against the New York Yankees on Thursday.

Davis hit a soft fly to shallow centre off Giovanny Gallegos (0-1) that went off the glove of second baseman Starlin Castro, who tried to make a diving catch. Jed Lowrie went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and a triple for the A’s. Yonder Alonso had two hits, including a solo home run.

Castro hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the top of the 10th inning.

Miguel Cabrera’s first home run since May 20 went just over the fence into the seats in right field with one out and one on in the ninth inning to give Detroit a 5-3 victory over Tampa Bay.

Reliever Tommy Hunter (0-2) gave up a one-out single to Alex Avila in the ninth and pinch-runner Andrew Romine watched halfway between first and second as Cabrera’s high fly ball on a 97mph fastball went into the seats. It was Cabrera’s sixth home run this season and seventh career walkoff.

Raimel Tapia stroked a walk-off single to right field with one out in the ninth inning as Colorado blew a 9-1 lead before defeating San Francisco 10-9.

Mark Reynolds led off the ninth with a single against Hunter Strickland (1-2). Ian Desmond fouled out. Pinch hitter Carlos Gonzalez walked on four pitches, setting the stage for Tapia, who went 2-for-5 with two RBIs after going 4-for-4 on Wednesday.
