Abu Dhabi: A new cancer charity in Abu Dhabi has announced it will hold its first fund-raising event at Yas Marina Circuit in November.

Rahma, the Arabic word for mercy, is a charitable service launched last month by the Cancer Patient Care Society in Abu Dhabi to provide practical and psychological support for people diagnosed with cancer.

A kick-off fund-raiser at Yas Marina Circuit on Saturday, November 7, will give thousands of participants a chance to run three kilometres and cycle two laps of the F1 circuit in a non-competitive environment.

The RahmaYAS event aims to raise awareness of the new charity, to attract volunteers and to raise as much as Dh200,000 through entrance fees and additional donations.

“We’re immensely proud to be supporting Rahma as it takes its first steps towards providing the support and assistance that is so important for people living with cancer,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, Chief Executive Officer of Yas Marina Circuit.

“RahmaYAS is a great chance for people to enjoy the fantastic Abu Dhabi Grand Prix circuit, to get some exercise, to enjoy the entertainment, and, most importantly, to raise funds for a worthy cause.”

Entrance to RahmaYAS costs Dh50, with all proceeds going directly to Rahma, which is a voluntary organisation.

Entrants will be given a purple or white T-shirt to run and cycle in. They will also have access to an entertainment village, with live music and healthy food and drink.
