Dubai: The UAE National Olympic Committee (UAE NOC) is confident of tapping the remote corners of the country to ensure bigger participation in the inaugural edition of the UAE National Sports Day in the last week of November.

The UAE National Sports Day, to be held on November 25, was formally announced by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President, UAE NOC when the official logo was launched in mid-July.

The UAE National Sports Day is the brainchild of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The event is meant to coincide with the 44th anniversary of the UAE National Day on December 2.

“The UAE today stands for a nation that is united even though we have more than 200 nationalities working and living amicably together. We have embarked on a plan that will have everyone in the UAE who will embrace this day in the true spirit of sport,” Shaima Al Zarouni, Project Co-ordinator told Gulf News at the end of a meeting of the executive committee.

“One of the most important elements will be to engage with everyone, be it in schools, clubs, companies, government departments and even NGOs so that we truly see the spirit of diversity coming through on this unique day,” she added.

The executive committee for the UAE National Sports Day met last week to decide on the marketing and promotion plan to be adopted to make the event a success. Al Zarouni was joined by Mohammad Al Kamali, General Secretary, UAE NOC; Saeed Hareb, General Secretary, Dubai Sports Council (DSC); Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary, Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), Shamma Al Khazraji, Executive Director, Marketing and Communications, Abu Dhabi Media and Saeed Mussabah Al Ketbi from the Sharjah Educational Zone.

“The various promotional guidelines have been submitted for approval from the committee, and a final decision will be taken at a later date. We want each and every resident of the UAE to be involved in the UAE National Sports Day. Everyone will have a say. The day will be like a statement from the country to the world using sports as a medium,” Al Kamali said.
