Dubai: Kenyan long-distance legend Tegla Loroupe will be one of the star entries for next month’s Dubai Women’s Run, which will start at Meydan Racecourse.
Held under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman, UAE National Olympic Committee (UAE NOC), with support from Dubai Holding, Loroupe will be one of the main participants for the November 8 event.
Besides her presence in the world of athletics, Loroupe has been a global spokeswoman for peace and women’s rights and education. Another top athlete who is scheduled to run alongside the Kenyan star is Raha Moharrak of Saudi Arabia.
Based in Dubai, Moharrak is the youngest Arab and the first woman from Saudi Arabia to conquer Mount Everest. She has also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Vinson and Mount Elbrus in an attempt to highlight women’s rights in her native country.
“The Dubai Women’s Run has become a major event in the region’s sports events calendar, as exemplified by this year’s impressive list of attendees,” said Liesa Euton, Race Director, Dubai Women’s Run. “We look forward to welcoming great runners and even greater women to our event, as examples and inspiration for our 5000 participants registered to-date.”
Leading athletes from across the world are confirming their attendance for the Dubai event, including previous winners of the run along with fresh names from Ethiopia, Russia, Bosnia Herzegovina and the UAE.
