Abu Dhabi: Nicole Clarissa Miranda is currently busy with her Grade 10 exams, but the Abu Dhabi Indian School student is waiting for her holidays so that she can turn her attention to her pet event - shot put.

At a time when one hardly finds school students pursuing athletics, Nicole has done exceptionally well to rewrite the record books in the CBSE National Athletic meet held annually in India.

A winner of the under-14 shot put gold in 2006 in Bhopal, Nicole hurled the iron to a distance of 9.62 metres during the CBSE National Athletic Meet held in Kochi in January.

"Right now, I am concentrating on my Grade 10 exams, but once my holidays start, I intend to do some serious training," said Nicole who has also established herself in swimming.

"In the 2006 swimming meeting in Nagpur, I won five silver medals and in the 2007 event in Chennai, I won two gold medals, one silver and a bronze medal," said Nicole, whose pet swimming style is the breast-stroke.

When most students from the sub-continent are keen only on studies, Nicole's success is mainly due to her sports-loving father, Trevor Miranda, a former hockey player, and her mother Letecia, who has been the driving force along with Milton Dennison, Nicole's coach.
