Ras Al Khaimah: Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, yesterday granted a donation of $25,000 to the Paul Tergat Foundation - the official charity for the RAK International Marathon 2007.

Prize winners of the RAK International Half Marathon donated 10 per cent of their winnings to the charity as well.

Paul Tergat was the Athletic Guest of Honour at the event. Kenyan Tergat, considered one of the most talented runners ever in the history of the sport, founded the Paul Tergat Foundation, a charitable organisation that helps disadvantaged children and funds educational development in Africa.

Tergat's timing of 2:04:55 is still a world record in marathon. It was achieved in Berlin in 2003.

Tergat's rivals worldwide are still striving to better that mark.

In 2005, Tergat won the New York City Marathon in 2:09:30 - almost a year after he was named a UN World Food Programme (WFP) Ambassador against hunger.

"We hope the international community will partner us to support some of our programmes," he said yesterday.
