Dubai: Majid Mohammad from the Omar Bin Al Khatab School secured the top spot in the three-kilometre road race organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) under the aegis of the second edition of the Hamdan Bin Mohammad School Games that was launched earlier this week.

Mohammad crossed the finish line with a time of 12 minutes and 22 seconds, followed by Sultan Mubarak from the Al Muhalab School with a time of 12.37 mins in second and Hazza Khamis from the Rashid Bin Saeed School came in third in a time of 13.03 mins.

The next stage of the Hamdan Bin Mohammad programme will see the start of the under-12 football tournament that will be held from the first week of November.

The other components of the programme include swimming, track and field, basketball and volleyball.

Training sessions will also be held for male and female teachers to increase their technical levels and to promote the benefit to all participating parties.

The second edition of the Hamdan Bin Mohammad School Games was launched with the road race at Al Mamzar Beach more than 800 students turning up from the various government and private schools in Dubai.

The event focuses on juniors — the real source of talents — and provides them with full support.

The competition was attended by officials from DSC and Dubai Schools Agency in addition to several coaches from Dubai clubs who are keen to be acquainted with new talents and to give them a chance to join clubs and then to play for national teams.
