Dubai: The head of the organising committee has reiterated that nothing short of excellence will do when the Dubai Women’s Triathlon is held at the Dubai Ladies Club (DLC), next weekend.

The inaugural edition of the women’s only Dubai Women’s Triathlon will be held next Friday (November 3) and Lamia Abdul Aziz Khan, Head of Dubai Women’s Triathlon Organising Committee, Director of DLC and Vice President of the Women’s Sports Committee of Dubai Sports Council (DSC), said that all preparations are on schedule to ensure the event is a huge success.

“Keeping up with Dubai’s track record of excellence, we are working in tandem with all stakeholders to deliver an exceptional and unforgettable experience to all the ladies participating in our event. We hope the success of the upcoming triathlon would be a stepping stone for us to expand this event and take it to an international level even by next year,” Lamia said after a meeting with representatives of Dubai Police, Dubai Ports Police Station, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Ladies Club.

The meeting addressed the logistics of the triathlon and mapped out its 40-km path in accordance with the necessary safety measures, ensuring the well-being of swimmers, cyclists and runners while providing them with all their needs during the course of the race.

“We are happy with the steady inflow of registrations we have been receiving from women of different ages and fitness abilities during the past few days. We urge all women wishing to transform their physical wellness to challenge themselves and join this unique triathlon,” Lamia said.

Held under the auspices of the DSC and its Fitness Challenge, the The DLC has been running a free training camp to provide all participants with the necessary techniques, fitness confidence and physical knowledge to compete in the event.

Women of all nationalities aged 16 and above can register for the triathlon until October 30. The event has been divided into three categories — Super Sprint (400m swim, 10km cycling and 2.5km run), the Sprint course (750m swim, 20km cycling and 5km run) and the Short course (1.5km swim, 30km cycling and 10km run).
