Dubai: The second round of qualifying competitions to shortlist athletes for the girls’ under-11, under-14 and under-16 categories for the CBD Youth Athletics Championships will be held at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HTC) along the Dubai-Al Ain Highway this weekend.

The competition for the girls under-16 category will be held from 1.30 pm on Friday, followed by the competitions for the girls under-11 and under-14 categories at 8 am and 1.30 pm respectively.

Meanwhile, in the opening round of the qualifiers held last weekend, Arshay Ashwin Kathpalia and Shiv Govind Shalesh of Wincester School Jebel Ali led the qualifying in the under-11 category along with under-14 athletes from the Our Own High School, Dubai.

Shubham Sanjeev Das, Princeton Meldon, Rithik Bhagirath Aswani and Reewaj Neupane had the best time of 52.00 seconds to qualify at the top of the lot in the boy’s under-14 4x100 metres relay. The quartet from Wincester School Jebel Ali clocked the second best time of 53.78 seconds. Joining them for the finals to be held in February 2014 were the teams from Al Shorouq Private School, Mohammad Bin Rashid School, National Charity School and Delhi Private School.

Our Own High School Dubai’s Princeton Meldon was the fastest qualifier in the 100 metres dash of the boy’s under-14 segment with a time of 11.81 seconds. Rashid Esmail from Shafeay School for Basic Education was second best with a time of 12.00 seconds flat. Another Our Own High School student who excelled was Sherwin Saji Chacko, who topped the 600 metres run in a time of 1:48.31, while Nashon Dominic Roche from Delhi Private School was second best with 1:49.10.
