Dubai: The Our Own High School, Dubai, once again hogged the limelight and walked away with handsome cash earnings of Dh140,000 after dominating the 2014 CBD Youth Athletics Championships held at the Higher College of Technology, Dubai Men’s College stadium in Academic City last week.

Various age group teams from the defending champions Our Own High School dominated and won top spots in three of the six categories.

The under-14 and under-16 girls’ teams won with 31 points and 43, while the under-17 boys also emerged victorious with 43 to take home maximum cash prizes of Dh30,000 in each class.

The under-14 and under-11 boys ended in second place behind the Dubai National School Al Barsha and Mohammad Bin Rashid School respectively to collect a further Dh20,000 each and the under-11 girls took third and Dh10,000 to help complete the domination.

The Winchester School Jebel Ali also came up with some fine performances as they bagged the first place in the under-14 girls’ category while taking second place in the under-16 and under-11 girls’ categories. The school was also placed third in the under-11 and under-14 boys to take home a total of Dh90,000 for their efforts.

Held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, with sponsorship from Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD), the fourth edition of this event was held in six age categories with a total of Dh500,000 on offer for winning teams.

This year’s competition attracted more than 1,800 athletes from 82 schools from across Dubai who qualified through the course of the year till last weekend’s finals.

The annual competition is being held to narrow down on athletic talent in the school sector within the emirate.
