Incheon: Sania Mirza wanted to push herself for the last part of the season and sign off on a high with the ‘Road to Singapore’ being the ultimate target this year.

The Indian star rushed off to Beijing in the early hours of Tuesday to team up with Zimbabwe’s Cara Black for their opening round doubles at the China Open later on Tuesday.

Mirza has had an amazing second half of 2014 during which she reached the US Open doubles semi-finals with Black and won the mixed doubles in New York. Earlier in the year, she had reached the final of the Montreal Open while winning titles at the Estoril Open and more recently, the Tokyo Open.

“The last couple of weeks have been rough for me where I’ve not had any time for myself. After New York I barely got three days at home [Hyderabad] from where I went straight to Tokyo, won there and came here. It’s a good problem to have I guess,” she told Gulf News.

“2014 has been a great year especially the second half and hopefully we can finish on a high along with this mixed doubles win here [Asian Games], and then see how we fare in Singapore [year-ending WTA Women’s finale] as this definitely going to be a highlight of my career,” she added.
