San Francisco: The National Football League has approved the competition committee’s proposal to move extra-point kicks back to the 15-yard line, the owners decided at their annual meeting on Tuesday.

The owners also voted to allow defences to score on failed conversion attempts in an attempt to add more excitement to the games.

The new format means the snap of the ball on extra-point kicks will take place from the 15-yard line. The ball previously was placed on the two and conversions rarely missed.

Twenty-six of the 32 teams didn’t miss an extra point last season. Teams went 163-of-171 on field goals between 30-35 yards.

On two-point conversion attempts starting next season, the ball will still be placed at the two, but the defences will now be allowed to return an interception, fumble or blocked kick to the opposing team’s end zone for two points.
