Buffalo, New York: The owners of the Buffalo Sabres have hired an investment banker as they consider making a bid for the Buffalo Bills.

Three people familiar with the hire confirmed on Wednesday that Terry and Kim Pegula have retained Steve Greenberg of Allen & Co., which is regularly involved in sales of sports teams. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Pegulas have not announced it.

The Pegulas have not publicly said they will try to buy the Bills, who are on the market after owner and founder Ralph Wilson died in March. But the AP has reported they are among prospective buyers who received a non-disclosure agreement and background on the Bills from a law firm representing Wilson’s estate.

Greenberg’s hiring was first reported by The Buffalo News.
