Las Vegas: Authorities in Las Vegas have charged NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp with biting his girlfriend, throwing her to the ground and stepping on her head in an April incident that began at the M Resort in Henderson, Nevada.

The criminal complaint filed Thursday in Las Vegas Justice Court charges Sapp with three domestic battery misdemeanors that carry up to 18 months in jail if he’s convicted.

A police report says the fight started when Sapp allegedly threw a margarita in his girlfriend’s face at the resort’s pool, and it continued during the drive home and at the woman’s Las Vegas condo.

Sapp could not be immediately reached for comment, and it isn’t clear if he’s represented by an attorney.

He is due in court July 23.

Meanwhile, the NFL Players’ Association has complained to the league about whether the Patriots improperly disciplined cornerback Malcolm Butler during voluntary workouts.

NFLPA spokesman George Atallah said Thursday that the union has a responsibility to pursue all violations of the collective bargaining agreement consistently.

The Patriots are accused of holding Butler out of voluntary workouts because he was late for the first of the team activities. The Patriots and Butler have not publicly acknowledged the discipline, though Butler did tell reporters when he turned up at workouts that he had to deal with someone taking something away from him.

Butler became a Super Bowl hero last season when he intercepted Russell Wilson on the goalline in the final minute. Since then, he’s appeared on talk shows, got a parade in his hometown and even presented at the Grammys.
