Dubai It’s finally happened. The mobile phone has invaded the last bastion of privacy – your bathroom. Sony Ericsson has unveiled a waterproof superphone that will keep talking – come rain or shower, literally.

And, for those hundreds of embarrassed souls who have ended up with dead phones after dropping them down the toilet (Sony claims one in 10 people has dropped their phone down a toilet at some point in their lives) they can now simply pull their phones out of the pot and behold: it will be as good as new (wash it under a tap though).

Sony hopes the Xperia Z (Android Jelly Bean 4.1, that can be upgraded easily to 4.2) that is capable of being submerged in water of up to one metre in depth for 30 minutes will help it take on the iPhones and the Galaxies as it’s packed with super features.

According to reports the new handset that was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas recently has a 1080p five-inch screen with one of the highest resolutions yet seen on a mobile phone. The phone is big alright, but thanks to a super thin 7mm chassis, it feels light in the hand. The phone is super fast and super responsive, as it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad core processor with 2GB of RAM to rev things up. Other features include a high-resolution 13-megapixel camera, 4G LTE and NFC.

However, if you wish to take the phone to the shower in the coming days or weeks, you may have to wait a wee bit more. The phone is slated for a global launch in March. Sony Mobiles in Dubai, however did not disclose when the phone would be available in the UAE but one can safely assume that it will be here before the summers.
