Sharjah: Sharjah will host the 5th edition of the Dawahi Festival at Al Yash Park and the Beach Park in the city of Dibba Al Hisn, from December 17 to January 3, 2017.

The new logo and details of the event were announced by Shaikh Majid Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, director of the Districts and Village Affairs Department, at a press conference held in Al Noor Island in Sharjah on Tuesday evening.

Shaikh Majid said, “Under the guidance of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler Of Sharjah, the Districts and Village Affairs Department in Sharjah took the initiative to organise the community event under the title “Dawahi Festival” to promote social and family welfare. The festival had been popular in the past four years.

“Our main objective is to create an atmosphere of entertainment and activities in order to strengthen the bond between families and members of the community.”

The event is being held in cooperation with 22 main partners including Sharjah Community Police, Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Water and Electricity Authority, Sharjah Heritage Institute, Sharjah Islamic Bank and Sharjah Media Centre.

“These partnerships are aimed at effective social involvement of government organisations and introducing the audience to the various activities of these departments and organisations,” Shaikh Majid said.

Al Yash Park on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road was chosen as one of the locations of the event to enable people from other emirates to visit and enjoy the festival, he added.

Colonel Ali Saif Al Nadas, director of Sharjah Community Police, told Gulf News that all police divisions will be present at the event.

Traffic patrols will organise the traffic flow on the road, and the police will hold an exhibition in the two locations about the force’s programmes, distribute awareness brochures and give lectures to the public.

The activities will include: a children’s city, a small traders’ bazaar corner, and productive families’ kiosks which will sell their own foods or products. In addition, cultural programmes and competitions will be co-organised by other government sectors.

A Chinese folk dance troupe will present different folk performances.
