Sharjah: Two new police stations will be opened by the end of this year in the Wasit and Al Siuoh area in Sharjah in addition to a temporary custody building in Sharjah industrial area, Colonel Omar Abdullah Al Suwaidi, director of the Sharjah police stations, told Gulf News
Al Hira police station will be replaced with Wasit police station located near the complex of police buildings in the Wasit area. Colonel Al Suwaidi said the new stations will be among other new police stations and rescue centres in the emirate to be opened by the end of this year.
Though the emirate saw a 15 per cent decrease in crimes committed between 2010-2012, Sharjah Police have deployed more patrols to curb illegal activity.
Illegal vendors, particularly in the residential areas, are being nabbed on a daily basis by increased police patrols. he said.
In a separate project, the city of Sharjah is looking to beautify its entrances by changing the complexion of roads leading into the city from an industrial appearance to more of a residential image, say authorities.
Most of the Sharjah entrances located in the industrial area will undergo a major facelift as industrial areas will be shifted to Al Sajaa area.
Only the city centre will stay at the same location while all industrial warehouses and premises will be demolished and replaced with residential buildings featuring ground floor retail shops.
The project will start by December 1 and will be carried out by Sharjah Police and the Sharjah Town Planning and Survey Department (STPSD).
The new project will also ease the movement of traffic.
Tenants living in the industrial areas will be relocated after Sharjah authorities did not renew their licences in favour of compensation to move to other areas.
