Sharjah: The Sharjah Fountain at Al Majaz Waterfront brought the ancient Islamic art of Ebru to life with a never seen before art performance by acclaimed Ebru artist Garip Ay from Istanbul.
Ebru which can be described as painting on water is an art form dating back to the 10th century. Also known as water marbling, this unique method of painting happens in a tray of water (the canvas) where special inks are “swirled and crafted” to produce fascinating works, which are then, traditionally, transferred to paper. The results of this process are unique with no two designs ever exactly the same again.
The 10 minute show, which is choreographed to an original musical track, will merge Ebru with the oversized water screens of the Sharjah Fountain, showing the step-by-step creation of these art pieces on the fountain’s water screens. The show will become a part of the Sharjah Fountain multimedia shows that take place daily except for Sundays.
