Al Ain: Clouds, moderate temperature, and scattered light to moderate rain on Monday encouraged people to enjoy outdoor activities across much of the emirates.

The overcast conditions provided respite to residents who have experienced some unusually hot and dry days this month. Though clouds had been hovering around since last night over much of the country, the rain started at around midday in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.

Later in the afternoon, light to moderate rain was reported from different parts of Abu Dhabi, Al Quaa, Mohammad Bin Zayed City, Madinat Zayed, and some suburban areas of Dubai. Forecasters said the cloudy conditions are expected to continue but there are no chances of rain.

People in Al Ain looked at the clouds and prayed for rain that has however eluded them. Just a drizzle was reported from the outskirts of the oasis city. The conditions were windy and pleasant almost the whole day.

The maximum temperature hovered around 31 degrees Celsius, mostly in inland areas. It was forecast to fall to 12 to 17 degrees Celsius at night. The conditions were cold at night in the mountainous areas with a minimum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), meanwhile, expects a fall in temperature on Tuesday. “Moderate to fresh winds, especially over the sea, will blow dust in the internal areas, and the sea will be rough,” said the NCMS weather bulletin, noting that the weather will be partly cloudy.

Similar weather is likely to continue on Wednesday but wind speed will decrease and the sea will return to normal levels. The national weather bureau also warned of rising humidity levels in some coastal and inland areas with a chance of early morning fog formation. The NCMS has also advised motorists to take precaution on roads due to poor visibility.

The NCMS said hot as well as cool days with occasional rain, fog, and windy conditions with a high degree of fluctuation are not unusual in March. “It’s the transitional period between the summer and winter seasons, and is usually characterised by significant change with reference to climate history,” said the centre.
