Al Ain: Moderate to heavy rain, with occasional thunderstorms, on Sunday pounded different parts of the country amidst forecast for more rain on Monday.
Most parts of the Emirates were under a thick cover of fine dust since Friday evening. Overcast conditions later spread across the emirates including Dubai, Abu Dhabi city, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and the Western Region of Abu Dhabi where residents reported moderate to heavy rain.
Morning rain also created a problem for the people as motorists reported slow-moving traffic on Al Khail Road, Meydan Road and Business Bay Bridge. Some minor accidents were also reported in Dubai. Police and the national weather bureau have warned motorists to exercise caution on wet roads.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) says the unstable weather is expected to continue with more rain on Tuesday. The rain and cloudy conditions have caused the mercury to fall from 42 degrees Celsius to 39 degrees Celcius in the inland areas. Weather conditions have also become mild in the coastal areas, though humidity is high.
Rain was slightly heavy in Al Ain, particularly around Jebel Hafeet, and the Western Region. It started at around 2am and scattered showers continued until evening. Thunder and lightning accompanied the rain and people posted pictures of lightning on Twitter and other social media.
Winds are expected to be strong at times and the sea has been rough since last evening. Forecasters have warned fishermen to be careful. There are chances of strong wind in some areas with blowing dust and poor horizontal visibility.
According to the NCMS, the weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy on Monday over some areas. The amount of cloud will increase from time to time with a chance of rain. The centre also expects another fall in temperature.
