Gulf News reader Ebrahim Malik sent us these photographs to mark World Population Day on July 11. He said: “I took the photographs in Chandausi Junction railway station, Uttar Pradesh, India. This scene shows how India’s population has reached such an extent that even its railways are unable to cope with it, although the country has some of the largest railway networks in the world.” As of January 1, 2014, the world’s population was estimated to be 7.1 billion people. India represents almost 17.31 per cent of the world’s population, which means one out of six people on this planet live in India. According to the United Nations, it is set to overtake China as the world’s most populous country in 2028.
