Sharjah: A young man suspected of stealing 37 etisalat Wasel prepaid cards from a petrol station’s supermarket in Kalba City was arrested by Sharjah Police yesterday.

Sharjah Police said that two Emiratis entered the supermarket at a petrol station in Kalba City and asked the cashier to show them all their etisalat Wasel prepaid cards, claiming they wanted to buy them.

The cashier believed their claims and displayed 37 Etisalat Wasel prepaid cards worth Dh3,700. Later, one of the Emirati suspects who was identified as Saeed A.A. claimed he had forgotten his wallet in his car and asked the cashier to go with him to their car for payment.

The two Emiratis got into their car and fled the scene leaving behind an astonished cashier.

The petrol station’s management reported the incident to the operation room of Sharjah Police who went to the scene of the incident to invetigate the case and arrested the thieves.

Police said yesterday that investigators had tracked down the robbers and the car used in their crimes.

Police managed to identify one of the suspects and arrest him while the second one fled.

The first suspect confessed to his crime and told police about his partner and the place where they hid the car which was used in the crime.

Sharjah Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the second suspect and bring him to justice .

He said the men were unemployed and had been involved in other crimes before.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution.
