Dubai: Believe it or not, an Italian restaurant in Dubai is giving you the freedom to pay whatever you think its meals are worth.
The ongoing promotion by Serafina Dubai, located in Souk Al Bahar, is applicable only during breakfast hours.
Restaurant manager Dominic Gruening told XPRESS that the idea behind the proposition called “What’s It Worth” is to give customers the prerogative to put a tab on their experience at the restaurant.
“We began serving breakfast just last week and wanted to come up with something different to promote the launch. So we thought of this novel idea. Although it exists in parts of the West, it is totally new to the UAE,” he said.
Basically, pay-what-you-want restaurants offer customers the chance to eat high-brow food without having to empty their wallets. They are based on the assumption that customers will be fair without take advantage of the promotion. A pricing strategy, the concept works on the principle that buyers are attracted by permission to pay whatever they want. Unlike conventional pricing, it immediately allays fears of remorse when a product doesn’t measure up the customer’s expectations. It is usually time-bound.
In the case of Serafina too, the offer is for a limited period. Introduced on January 27, it is open from 8am to 1pm every day till February 8. But it could be extended.
Gruening said: “We cannot rule out an extension as the response to our breakfast launch offer has been great.”
So just how much are customers shelling out for the meals?
Without divulging details, Gruening said: “People are paying us acceptable amounts.”
The menu consists of both set and a la carte options. Hit items include waffles, pancakes and eggs benedict, with juice, coffee and tea.
The breakfast promotion apart, Serafina has also launched a FEED LOVE campaign, with its interactive social media initiative inspiring love and connecting diners from all over the world.
“The global campaign has flooded Serafina’s social media channels with images of diners showing their love for food and how Serafina’s love-inspired interiors have made dining all the more enjoyable for them.”
