Are certain nationalities of more value? An annual ranking by Henley and Partners, a global consulting firm with offices around the world, and in conjunction with IATA, the International Air Transport Association revealed that not all passports are created equally. If you are a passport holder of a certain country, you may be better off than others in terms of travelling freely around the world. Modern day racism is now based on the marginalization of groups performed by the upper elite, usually known as the “white man”. It doesn’t end there, according to a 2013 report by Release, a UK group focusing on drugs and drug laws stated that black people in England and Wales are far less likely to use drugs than a white person but six times more likely to be stopped and searched for possession of them.

The focus of this week’s debate is on modern day racism and whether or not certain nationalities are of more worth than others.

These are the statements to be debated:

• Modern day racism is no longer brazen but predictable.

• Racism is a system of discrimination planted by history, nourished by politics and nurtured by economics.

• Racism adapts to current political status giving certain nationalities an advantage.

Participants will be required to clearly state whether they are ‘for’ or ‘against’ the statement and provide their supporting arguments for the same.
