Humiliating for women

Creating a system of virginity tests for female police officers in Indonesia would subject women to humiliation (‘Virginity tests for female police in Indonesia,’ Gulf News, November 19). Are men also required to prove they are good enough for high school and the police force by undergoing similar tests? How does virginity prove mental or physical capabilities required for doing a job correctly? I find this shameful!

People are too selfish

I honestly feel that the authorities should make waste segregation compulsory (‘The community is responsible for waste,’ Gulf News, November 19). People are just not willing to understand or do the needful. Either they are just too selfish or not so sensible! The concept of reduce, reuse and recycle needs to be driven home with a strong hand.

Salary offers

Two Important questions come up when talking about employment opportunities (‘Top 5 UAE industries hiring right now,’ Gulf News, November 19). Firstly, are the offered salaries good enough to meet the living expenses in the UAE? Especially because rent for apartments and villas is continuously increasing. My second question would be: in the new offered jobs, are there any schemes to increase your salary as per the increasing cost of living? For example, if rent doubles, are salaries likely to go up 100 per cent or increase with relation to the trend?

Many victims of Daesh

The brutal killing of the US aid worker who had converted to Islam and several other people in Syria is astonishing for everyone (‘Death sentence for killer of BBC cameraman,’ Gulf News, November 19). Despite the growing threat of Daesh and other extremist groups, the world community is doing very little to control the situation. There have been some little efforts by several countries, but they have failed to stop the flow of people who are joining and supporting extremist groups in Iraq and Syria. According to security experts, social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have become command and control centres of extremist organisations. True reality is that killing and displacement of innocent people can never have enough benefits to support cause or provide motive.

Daesh is doing whatever they want in Iraq and Syria, and they are not representing Islam. This is the main reason that Islamic scholars and religious leaders have rejected Daesh’s ideology and motives. According to media news, several thousand people have been forced to leave their homes in the chilling winter months, after Daesh advanced in several Iraqi and Syrian cities.

Twenty thousand people, most of them are women and children are still stranded in the desert and mountain areas without food, water and basic necessities of life!
