An act of kindness

I would like to share a story of a taxi driver because of his honesty. While coming back from Oud Metha, I forgot my mobile phone in the taxi, and I did not realise it. I had assumed that I had left it in the office. Around 11pm, I received a call from Santosh Kumar telling me that I had left my mobile in his taxi, but he did not remember which villa he had dropped me off at. I gave him my location again and within 30 minutes he brought my phone back. I really appreciate his sincerity.

A solution for traffic

I want to give a suggestion for reducing traffic in the UAE that would be purely for the welfare of residents.

I asked myself, why do places like the UK and the US and other countries not have these issues? It is because they usually walk or take a bus or metro. We can obviously not walk in this country to our workplaces unless it’s really close by because of the weather.

Everyone here has a car and drives to work. It’s like hundreds of thousands of cars on the road and there is often only a single person in the vehicle, taking up space on the road with their car. Instead, we should have many more buses for everyone during the work hours from 9am to 6pm. Each bus could be assigned for specific areas and employees/employers could walk to their offices from the bsu stops, and the roads would be relatively empty. Even if there were 100 buses, there would still be lots of space as they would go in different directions and a single bus could take 30 to 40 passengers, maybe even more.

You would not have to worry about waking up two to three hours earlier and could have a good sleep, be more productive, save on car maintenance and fuel. Children would probably be home earlier, and there would be fewer accidents and no wastage of time in the traffic.

Acknowledging people

This month began with the International Labour Day. It is a very significant time in our daily routine as it focuses on the unsung aspects of society: the workers who toil ceaselessly in the hot sun for our luxury while we sit in the comfort of our homes. They work day and night. These are the real heroes who are away from their families and are all expatriates coming from different countries. Hence, it is our moral duty to appreciate them and make them feel cared for. I would like to encourage all the residents of the UAE to love, care, honour and felicitate these labourers for their tireless efforts. Even a small, affectionate gesture can put a big smile on their faces.
