Look into details

I guess the labour contract should be enough to match the salary certificate provided by the company for its employees (‘Bank statement required to sponsor family in Dubai,’ Gulf News, May 21). Sometimes companies deduct dues (could be because of unpaid leaves) of an employee from the monthly salary. In this case, the amount transferred to the bank could be less than the required salary limit according to the new rule. This could also cause a mismatch in the amount stated on the labour contract and the amount transferred into the bank. These issues could lead to cancellation of the visa application. I request the authorities to consider all detailed aspects.

Sponsorship for parents

I feel the officials could be lenient in cases where employees are sponsoring parents. If an employee’s mother is alone in one’s home country and the son wants to bring her here, then he should be able to do so. I think an employee with a salary more than Dh5,000 should be allowed to sponsor with the required documentation.

Social lifestyle

People who are willing to bring their family are the ones who believe in living a healthy social life. Their salary slab should not be a deterrent in bringing families together. I think it is very important for a country to have an established social life in a multicultural environment. If more people bring their families, there will be a more avid social life. This will also reduce the stressed life of employees living by themselves. A family life is always a healthy option.

It’s not about the figures

As far as the salary goes, I think its all about management of finances as opposed to figures. One could be earning a lot of money but still perpetually overdrawn because of their elaborate or wasteful lifestyle. If someone decides to sponsor family members, they shouldn’t be limited based on their salary figures. At least not until there are repeatedly reported cases where families have posed a threat. Before someone decides to take a bold step of bringing their family, I am sure they look at their options constructively and are confident that they would be able to afford the lifestyle of their loved ones during the stay. People might have legitimate sources of income that may not reflect in their bank statements.

Burdened employees

Residents should be allowed to sponsor families as long as they can fulfil their requirements with their standard salary bracket. Bank statements do not always reflect this. Also, no person in his right mind will sponsor family if they don’t have enough resources to support them.

Being responsible

If there is a mismatch between the salary certificate and bank statement, then the company needs to be held responsible, not the employee. The new law enforcing bank statements for new residences can add trouble for already burdened employees.

Balanced outlook

This is an excellent report to read but it fails to represent the entire spectrum of people living in the UAE (‘Conference explores views of expats about UAE society,’ Gulf News, May 21). This comment is not to discourage the opinion poll conducted, but to know more about the opinion of others. The opinions expressed in the report are from the upper middle income bracket and that too from the education sector alone. However, it would be better if the opinions from all walks of life are heard. I guess more or less the opinions will be the same, but some practical day-to-day problems could be indicated and looked after. This would ensure a model community.

Land of opportunities

My parents moved to Dubai 40 years ago. Having been born and brought up in this country, I believe that the UAE is one of the best countries in the world. I sincerely hope that it grows and stays at the top. This country has many opportunities for growth. It also shares these opportunities with its residents. With time the trade laws have become more flexible and now even the middle-class residents have an opportunity to start their own businesses. I believe no matter what happens, one should never lose faith, only then is one rewarded in the end. I love this country of opportunities and pray that it only becomes better with time.
