Exemplary leadership

The leaders of the UAE are amazing (‘Five-year-old thalassaemia patient’s dream of joining police force comes true,’ Gulf News, May 20). Being a father of two lovely children, this news report and picture brought tears to my eyes. May God shower endless blessings on the leaders of this great country. I know that for as long as I live, I will always be inspired by the kindness, humility, leadership and brilliance of the UAE’s leaders. I consider myself lucky to be living in the country.

Lessons for the young

This is an example of teaching the younger generations the value of leadership and kindness. The leaders of the UAE are true paragons of leadership and prosperity. May God bless them.

Update company policies

Airfares have sharply increased in recent years (‘UAE expat holidays trigger airfare price hike,’ Gulf News, May 20). But most companies stick to their old policies and agreements. An air ticket to India costs Dh2,000 to Dh2,500. However, while joining an organisation, if the travel allowance is set at Dh1,500 then companies do not accommodate the increased prices. Lifestyle and necessities become expensive every year, but allowances do not increase. The employees eventually bear the additional costs to arrange their vacations. I think that the policies should be altered according to fare conditions. This will help remove the burden from employees.

Improve speed and frequency

Thumbs up for Dubai Metro (‘Dubai Metro crosses new milestones,’ Gulf News, May 20)! Even though I really like the Metro, I suggest that its speed be enhanced. Also, the trains need to be more frequent during peak hours. I am sure that the Metro will soon overcome these issues. I guess they already might have a solution drafted.

Weekend trains

Now that the Metro lines are set and running, it’s time that the trains start early on Friday mornings. There are thousands of commuters who need to use the Metro on Friday mornings. Also, I think that the Metro should have late-night services, well after midnight, at least during weekends.

Convenient

I love to travel by the Metro because of the comfort, ease of ride and frequency. It is a very convenient mode of transport when the roads are packed with traffic.

Economical

I use the Metro because it is a much cheaper way to get around the city.

Difficult task

How will the committee decide which products are halal and which are not, especially with a wide variety of international products in the market (‘Halal mark a must for all food products in UAE,’ Gulf News, May 19)? There are thousands of products coming from all across the world. However, this is a great initiative. This will be a great step forward, but they have a huge task on their hands.

Great work

Bravo! Hats off! Congratulations to the brave people who climbed Mt Everest (‘Saudi woman Raha Moharrak becomes the youngest Arab to conquer Everest,’ Gulf News, May 19). Being a girl and enduring such steep places isn’t as easy as it seems. It is my hobby to go on such expeditions and I know what it means for anyone to reach that level. I hope people start climbing the K2 peak based in Pakistan, as it is one of the toughest in the world. Every year lots of people attempt to conquer this range, but very few actually succeed.

Thank you note

This is to inform that Sandy is back home and she is in safe hands (‘Owner longs for missing dog,’ Gulf News, May 17). After spending five days desperately searching for Sandy, she finally found her own way back and jumped into our arms.

We would like to thank the people of Dubai. We are overwhelmed with the support we received from animal charities, Gulf News and other sources. We have had strangers out on the streets searching for her. We cannot thank them enough.
