Let children play safely

I live on Street 4 in Discovery Gardens and the stench from the sprinklers is awful (‘Sewage stench fills air in Discovery Gardens in Dubai,’ Gulf News, May 7). I live near a playground and the sprinklers now turn on between 5pm and 6pm, which is when children come out to play. So, they end up playing in the water puddles. Parents are worried about the health of their children in my area. The management must do something about it immediately. At least the sprinkler timings should be changed, especially in the areas near playgrounds.

Worried

I stay in Discovery Gardens on Street 9 with a small eight-month-old child. We are on the ground floor so the smell affects us very badly. I am worried about my baby’s health, because everyday he breathes in this bad-smelling air. Discovery Gardens has very nice landscaping. I don’t know why the management is not seriously looking into this issue.

Keep windows closed

I live on Street 3 in Discovery Gardens with my family. It is such a bad situation that whenever we open the balcony door to get some fresh air, we have to close it immediately as the bad smell of treated water used for irrigation spreads throughout the apartment.

Moving not an option

I have been living on Street 12 for three years and the stench from the sprinklers has always been like this. I know that sprinklers in other housing areas are not smelly at all. I cannot move to other areas in Dubai because I cannot afford to.

A health hazard

I live in building 40 on Street 3 in Discovery Gardens. This is absolutely correct and bothers me very much. I used to play with my children in the grass, but now I am really afraid to take them outside. The smell is disturbing. I have to deny my friends from visiting us due to the bad smell. I urge the authorities to intervene in this issue on an urgent basis as it is a serious health hazard for children and the elderly.

Reckless behaviour

When I grew up, ‘real’ rock stars were intentionally, by their nature, outrageous (‘Justin Bieber speeds in Dubai,’ Gulf News, May 8). However, at the end of the day, the only people’s lives they wrecked were, for the most part, their own. Justin Bieber is not the only ‘star’ to have shown up on stage late - I refer to Madonna’s appearance in the UAE last year. I think it is abhorrent that he has gone to the extent of recklessly endangering other people’s lives by driving like a lunatic on public roads in Dubai. Having driven high-performance cars on racetracks, I am aware of how much skill is required when driving at the highest of speeds. For a 19-year-old to be doing this, is beyond reckless. He is easily rich enough to book the Yas Marina Circuit or the Dubai Autodrome’s circuit to fulfil that need if he so wishes. I suggest that Dubai uses its new-found ability to charge people regardless of where they reside in the world to its full extent and ensure that if the young man wishes to return here, he will no longer be permitted to drive until he shows that he can do so safely and with the maturity required.

Bad example

This teen star is indeed a bad example to many. He is abusing his popularity.

Unacceptable

What was he hurrying for? He is such an irresponsible driver for being caught by six cameras, and for being late to the concert. He made teenagers and children suffer as they waited in the heat. I am no fan of his.

No more

What a shame! He is no role model for our children.

No one above the law

Bieber should respect the traffic rules and regulations of this country. He seems to think he can get away with anything.
