Help us get peace

Where is America and the United Nations (‘Israel accepts Egypt’s Gaza truce proposal,’ Gulf News, July 16)? Where are the influential European countries? And most saddening of it all - where are the other Muslim nations? We need to save the Palestinians and show the world what Islam stands for and how an ideal Muslim is. I request to all, we don’t want fights but help us get peace.

Necessary resistance

It is important for every peace-loving Muslim, Christian or people of any other faith, including the atheists of the world to know that humanity has no voice in Gaza. Israel has occupied and stolen Palestinian land 66 years ago. There are settlers from all over the world enjoying the stolen land and since then, thousands of Palestinians have been massacred in the name of the war on terror.

The US has blocked, with its veto rights, over 30 United Nations resolutions that ask Israelis to end the occupation and genocide. The US is providing billions of dollars every year to bombard and kill innocent people and children in Palestine.

Hamas was formed to resist further Israeli occupation, expansion and settlements and to fight for freedom of their own country. Before forceful stealing of the Palestinian land by Israel, there was no such organisation called Hamas or Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO). Personally, I am in favour of the peaceful solution of the ‘Clinton and George Bush road map’ to end this long standing dispute.

Not war, but murder

I feel deep sorrow and my heart is full of tears seeing the situation in Gaza. May God protect our brothers, sisters and especially the children. The anti-Islamic forces are together fighting against Muslims, and I have not seen any support for people of Gaza or condemnation speeches from many of the Muslim scholars and leaders of Islamic nations.

I can see clearly the fulfilment of the saying of our beloved Prophet Mohammad [PBUH] that we are nearing the day of judgement.

American political commentator Noam Chomsky said: “Israel uses sophisticated attack jets and naval vessels to bomb densely-crowded refugee camps, schools, apartment blocks, mosques and slums to attack a population that has no air force, no air defence, no navy, no heavy weapons, no artillery units, no mechanised armour, no command in control, no army and calls it a war….”

It isn’t war, it’s murder.

Tears for the innocent

My eyes are full of tears to imagine the situation of innocents. I pray that God will help them by saving the innocent victims and give a lesson to the culprits. It’s Ramadan, shame on Israeli leaders. Every Muslim, please, raise your hands and ask for help from God.

Weep in their grief

What is Ramadan all about to us? If our eyes do not shed tears for Palestinians, if our hands are still chained from giving, then why have we fasted and what have we prayed for? I weep in their grief and beg for God’s assistance to reach them sooner than later.

Killed for no reason

May God grant peace upon the Palestine civilians. I request all the countries and honourable leaders to support Palestine civilians who are being killed for no reasons. Please respect and remember we are all human beings.

Ongoing crisis

It’s a shame for Israel attacking the civilian community in Palestine. By killing women, children and the elders, the so-called ‘Operation Protective Edge’ is not going to get Israel a word of sympathy from any of its alliances across the world.

This is aggression, forcing people to leave their homes for doing nothing. It is for sure, whatever the Israelis are doing with arms and rockets that it cannot resolve the issues.

It is felt that the Palestinian administration is still short of enough support from the Arab world, whereas the world community is continuously keeping silent on the recurring Israeli atrocities on civilians in Gaza.

Though terrorism is condemned worldwide, the extent of recent attacks in Gaza is far from reality and has been demonstrating the gravity of situation, which requires immediate intervention by a responsible world. While Israel cannot compensate for the lives lost in the past few days, it will take years for Palestine to reshape its lost infrastructure.

As the whole world has been listening and watching the Israeli carnage in Gaza in the past few days, it is quite sad that they receive very little condemnation, prompting the assaults to go on and inviting more damages. It would be ideal for both sides to sit and talk to end the crisis, rather than engaging with weapons as it only escalates the tension. The United States and United Nations must play key roles to end the ongoing crisis.

Duty to donate

Ramadan is the month when people fast and it is the month that teaches us patience, while at the same time feeling the pain of the people who suffer without food (‘Families share leftover food with those in need,’ Gulf News, July 14). However, the percentage of food wasted has increased from 38 to 55 per cent.

I appreciate the work by residents to provide the unused food to the workers’ accommodations. Water is very precious and wasting one drop costs us a lot.

Many people are facing shortages of food and water, so it is our duty as human beings to donate and supply these precious gifts, given to us by God, to the needy.

Bias article

If UAE expatriates are among the highest earning, then they certainly are not talking about all expatriates (‘UAE expats among highest earners in the world,’ Gulf News, July 14). This seems to be from the point of view of some expatriates only. To me, these statistics seem biased.

Didn’t know violation

Accelerating when yellow is not always bad (‘36 Abu Dhabi intersections to be monitored by radar,’ Gulf News, July 13). In fact in some cases it prevents accidents. I never thought that this was a violation of traffic rules.

Laws on yellow lights

I didn’t know that accelerating on yellow was a violation. I would like this rule to be clarified as it might make people hit the brakes in panic and just cause more accidents.

Increasing traffic flow

If the traffic lights changed more frequently, there would be a greater flow of traffic. It would mean that people would not worry about being stationary or stuck for such long periods and someone at the front of the queue would be far less likely to jump a red light deliberately.

Start at home

Malala is highly popularised from surviving the Taliban attack and promoting education (‘Taliban survivor Malala in Nigeria, pledges to help free girls,’ Gulf News, July 14). I do admire her but I don’t think she should be too meddlesome in the problems of other countries. She’s too young and might get herself killed. Instead, if she truly cares, there are a lot of issues for women and children to be addressed in Pakistan. Start from there.

Education is important

Malala wants to educate children and there are many people living on this planet that are asking for this girl’s death. I feel sorry to know that the people that only have negative things to say about her were probably not educated by their parents. We shouldn’t be saying such bitter words to someone. Education is the only way.

Cannot be crushed

Why is everyone so threatened by Malala? I think people are insecure at the thought of a free-thinking, independent young woman taking charge of her future and helping others. People should not bringing their own people down and trying to crush them. Sorry, Malala’s spirit and courage cannot be crushed. Pakistan doesn’t need all the ignorant thinkers who are commenting.
