A man with a vision

This video that went viral was great! It’s Dubai and this progress is just the beginning (‘New video of Dubai goes viral’, Gulf News, February 18). Let’s just wait for 2020 for the World Expo. Dubai delivers because His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is a man with a vision and he has a team in place with a mission. It makes us proud to live and be part of Dubai. Long live Dubai!

An amazing place

What a video of dazzling Dubai - the city of gold. Yes, I have my nostalgic moments from when I had worked in Dubai in the early 1990s. It’s amazing to see Dubai transformed into a world class cosmopolitan city. I wish all the best with my hearty greetings and regards to the authorities who have helped make Dubai a diamond in the world. Thank you Gulf News for sharing the video.

Respecting all human beings

The Gulf News story about the Hindu temple being vandalised with a hate message after the recent assault of the 57-year-old man in Alabama, followed by a shooting of a 28-year-old man in New Jersey is all highly unacceptable (‘Hindu temple vandalised with hate message in US’, Gulf News, February 18). On one hand, the US speaks of religious tolerance and how human beings should be respected, but on the other hand, these things are happening and it is sad and painful. President Barack Obama’s administration should act quickly and such things should not be repeated in the future. They need to prove that the US is the peace loving country that they say it is without the racism and hatred towards various religions. Will Obama act immediately? We will have to wait and see.

Why the delay?

Now with Daesh telling women to wear double layered veils, why is the world allowing this to continue (‘Daesh orders women to wear double-layered veil’, Gulf News, February 18)? They are raping children, beheading and slaughtering innocent people time and time again! Ground forces and mass armies from all continents could swiftly wipe them out within weeks. What is the delay?

A good employment option

I don’t agree with this decision because it’s not like all are abused (‘Indonesia maids can work in UAE under certain conditions’, Gulf News, February 18)! Many Indonesian maids are happy working and are also able to make decent incomes. They can support their families back home but, with this decision, who will give them a comparable job in Indonesia? I don’t think the Indonesian President can make sure that all of them are employed and secure at the same levels of income.

Income in Indonesia

This is a good decision, but Indonesia has to provide them the support in the employment sector so that they will be able to maintain a source of income in their country. They need to be able to continue feeding their families.

Positive action

It is exhilarating to read that the Pope Francis has called for zero tolerance of abusive priests since his election in March, 2013 (‘Victims of priest abuse urge action from pope’, Gulf News, February 18). Recently, ten priests were accused in Spain of abusing an altar boy. When such cases arise, the bishops are responsible for taking action against the culprits. The media, which are known as the voice of the voiceless, are supposed to come forward to bring such issues to the attention of the public.

Why make it smaller?

This is in reference to your report on how teams like the West Indies shouldn’t be counted out (‘ICC has a moral duty to West Indies cricket’, Gulf News, February 18). It is really stunning, shocking and painful to know that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is contemplating reducing the number of teams participating in the next World Cup in 2019 to only 10! Every sports federation in the world tries their best to promote its sports throughout the world, however it is shameful that the ICC is trying to reduce the teams to 10 from the present 14. I feel teams from Ireland, Scotland, Zimbabwe and even Afghanistan have improved by leaps and bounds and they are giving a tough fight to the big eight Test playing nations in the world. Hence, this idea of the ICC is foolhardy and should be opposed by every associate member and, of course, by the cricket loving public. I am sure, a survey by your esteemed edition would prove that the ICC is on the wrong path.
