Investigation is needed

This is indeed a shocking event (‘Drowning victim’s father urges ban on pool parties’, Gulf News, November 29). I hope the family has the courage to face this horrifying incident. This is seriously a case of irresponsibility of those hosting the party. They should be questioned by the authorities about what measures they took for the security of the children they had invited.

Keep it locked

I live along Buhairah Corniche in Sharjah (‘Child safety: High-rise deaths’, Gulf News, November 29). When I moved here the first thing I did was put locks on all the windows and balcony doors and they would not be opened unless we were present. I have three children at home. It is the parents’ responsibility to take care of their children and the authorities should force owners of buildings to put locks on all windows and balcony doors.

Eye on children

I appreciate the move by the municipality and the town planning department. Also, a humble request to those who live in high-rise buildings: watch your children and do not leave them home alone.

Fix before we trip

I also live in the same building as the one the community reporter wrote about (‘Incomplete pavements are dangerous’, Gulf News, November 28). It is hard to walk on the footpath especially if you are new to the area. There is always a possibility of tripping or slipping if the soil is wet. I hope the authorities concerned will start fixing these pathways and prevent any accidents from happening.

Unforgettable

There is no doubt that cricketer Wasim Akram was a great all-rounder and one of the best left-arm pace bowlers in the history of cricket (‘Wasim Akram’s total recall’, Gulf News, November 28). Who can forget his double hat-trick at the famous Sharjah Cricket Stadium including his sixers falling outside the stadium on the Ras Al Khaimah road? Nevertheless, he can’t be compared to the great Imran Khan in any way, directly or indirectly, implicitly or explicitly, knowingly or unknowingly. I wish Wasim Akram all the best in his pursuit of happiness, better health and good times in days to come.

Legendary

I can never forget the two deliveries Akram bowled in the 1992 World Cup finals. He’s a real match winner and a great individual. From what I have heard my hometown, Chennai, is one of his favourite venues. He’s a real cricket legend.

Separation

Please note this statement: “The incident happened in a restaurant in the building” (‘21 buildings damaged in fire sparked by gas leak’, Gulf News, November 28). There have been many incidents regarding restaurants catching fire in residential buildings and harming people. It is strongly recommended to separate restaurants and not allow them to open in residential buildings. I hope authorities look into this to keep residents safe.
