Condemn others too!

The practices of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) are not Islamic to say the least and should be condemned by religious leaders of the world (‘Vatican calls on Muslim leaders to denounce Isil brutality,’ Gulf News, August 13). I don’t think that it needs a Vatican directive. However, the Vatican should also condemn the Israeli actions against Gazans in the same tone they have acquired for Isil. It will be utterly shameful for them not to. As the crime of war against Muslims of Gaza is equally barbaric, heinous and inhuman.

Question other atrocities

I would never try to justify what is happening in Iraq, but did the Vatican ever denounce the Israeli brutality on Palestinians, or for the Christian brutality on Muslims in Africa? Gulf news should not give importance to such news when it cannot question the Vatican on its views on Jewish Zionism.

No justification for death

People stop talking nonsense and pointing fingers. Any bloodshed that takes place in the world is wrong. There is not any justification whether it’s Isil, Israel or anyone else.

There should be one united cry to stop all this nonsense. No one has the right to tell another how to live their life, as long as they don’t cause harm to others.

Unity is important

When the Vatican, the holy place for Christians calls for a unity against Isil’s brutality, why are people using this space to comment on Israel’s barbarity? I also don’t understand what Christians do against the Muslims?

Terrorist never expects unity and we should always stay united regardless of religion. There are several heinous crimes happening across the world, which shouldn’t be justified with others. Never throw a ‘matchstick at a petrol station’.

Denounced by many

The senior Islamic scholars always denounce the practices similar to Isil and especially since the 1980s. The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia issued more than one fatwa on Isil. The Grand Mufti of Egypt issued a fatwa denouncing the practices of Isil as well.

All Islamic scholars issued fatwas denouncing Isil and other similar movements. Therefore, I am surprised that the Vatican issues this call, which shows that the Vatican is not really aware of what is really happening.

A time of peace and harmony

Christian countries like the US, and European countries and most countries of the North American Trade Organization (NATO) invaded Iraq to loot oil. Yazidis, Sunnis, Christians and Shias were all living in peace and harmony until then.

In fact, the country was so integrated; they had Tariq Aziz, an Iraqi Christian as Prime Minister then. As the saying goes, evil brings evil. The Vatican did not protest the invasion of Iraq. Failure of the Vatican to protest occupation of Palestine makes them less respectable.

Not true Muslims

The Vatican always prays for world peace. Not only Muslim leaders, but the whole world should condemn this barbaric act by Isil. This is a crime against humanity. These terrorists do not belong to any religion. They are just terrorists. They use religion for their selfish motives. No true Muslim will ever do the kinds of heinous acts they do.

Don’t buy, adopt

I hope these pets can be given a home (‘Your Turn - Adopt a pet in UAE: Give them a new life,’ Gulf News, August 13). There are lots of abandoned pets across the UAE. Their families have just left them. Poor animals! If you want to keep a pet, please adopt one, don’t buy. We have one, it’s what we did and we are blessed.

Shelters and rights

These pets are so cute. At least in the UAE there are places to take in these animals - shelter centres for example. It is very sad, from what I’ve seen in Pakistan there are no animal shelters or animal rights.

Dangerous maneuvre

The emergency button should have invoked some sort of response from the authorities (‘Dubai Metro stops between stations, passengers stranded,’ Gulf News, August 13). Maybe the emergency button also relies on power from the same source as the rest of the train, which is a poor setup. A person walking on the tracks is very dangerous since the power can come on at anytime and result in electrocution.

Unfortunate incident

That’s horrible that the passengers were stranded between Metro stations. Of course, they had to break the windows otherwise they would have suffered from severe suffocation and heat. I am surprised the central guys did nothing to operate the system or come on the venue.

It is easy to reach them within a few minutes to the location they broke down. I hope this kind of incident doesn’t take place again.

An act of honesty

My brother and I were returning from Dubai Festival City (DFC) Mall and caught a taxi from the DFC bus stop. We ended up forgetting our wallet in the taxi and we were in a situation that the wallet contained also our Indian driving license, debit cards, Emirates ID and some cash. We got down to the Emirates Metro Station to get our vehicle when we realised that we lost our wallet!

It was 11.30pm and we were so appreciative because that good taxi driver returned by contacting us when he realised it was ours. There are very few people who are so good hearted and honest in this world. So I really wanted to take a moment to give him my appreciation through Gulf news.

Litter in the city

When my brother-in-law went to Singapore and came back to Dubai, he praised the country’s cleanliness. It’s because I have been living the UAE since 1992 that I have seen how the country’s infrastructure has changed massively, but the municipality’s concentration towards areas like Karama, Bur Dubai and Deira is very poor. Their concentration is only beautifying Downtown Dubai, Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT).

The other areas are littered so badly, it’s totally unfit to walk. It is getting to a point that we have to wash our slippers before leaving them inside the house because the streets are filled with all sorts of trash from leftover fast food packets, unfinished fizzy drinks, nappy rolls and much more.

Especially during the weekends, it’s hopeless! They should fine and catch the people immediately when seen littering. At least the people should feel pity for the garbage cleaners who come every day to pick up the garbage cans. They should realise that those people are also humans, not robots who have no feelings!

Begging at mosques

On Fridays when one leaves the mosque, many women and children are found begging. We, as humans, understand that they are needy and should be helped but I think that the way they ask for help is wrong. It can lead to bad impressions on others. So what the Mosque administration can do is just put a simple box in the Mosque and the people who are interested in giving the money can put the amount in the box. It can later be distributed among the needy.
