Women in Saudi are not treated badly

Before we raise our ire on such issues, we must accept that there always is a reasons behind it (‘No entry for women,’ Gulf News, March 30). The ground reality is that it has become a headache for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to maintain the sanctity of Holy Mosque. Social media is creating havoc all over the world and destroying the basic values of our society, Saudi girls and boys are also victims of the same. When boys and girls plan to meet at the holy Kaaba, the authorities are left with no option but to have strict vigilance. It is not true that women are treated as inferiors, but on the contrary women have an upper hand in the society.

Tackle it earlier

This phenomenon has cultural and religious roots. It needs to be tackled earlier in life at school and home level to start with. Only changing the law and re-educating the people would result in institutional changes in the work place. Thanks for tackling such a controversial subject.

Insecurity

People blame the social media for all problems on Earth. People performing Umrah or Haj are in a state of joy and strict vigilance is not necessary. Individuals who see negativity in every action are simply insecure and believe that they must take all precautions.

Reward for honesty

Some incidents of everyday life make life worth living. Once I decided to treat my colleagues. I ordered pizzas for them. The delivery boy delivered it. I paid him and he left. Everyone enjoyed the meal. I then got a call from the reception that the delivery boy had come back and wanted to meet me. I checked my phone and realised that I had missed 15 calls from him. When I met him he gave me Dh100 back as there was a miscalculation, and I had paid him extra. I was surprised that he actually came back to return the money and called me 15 times for the same. I was touched by his honesty.

Worth reading

I have just finished reading Flashes of Thought written by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. I am writing this letter to tell everyone that it is one of the best books that I have read on leadership, management and life in general. In my opinion, this book should be a must read for all current and prospective leaders in any field, especially the leaders in Third World countries. This book can also be included in university and school curriculums. What strikes me the most in this book is the sheer simplicity and profoundness of the concepts and ideas put forward. For example, the philosophy that a leader’s job is ultimately nothing more than to make his people happy is such a simple yet profound concept. There is much to learn and appreciate in this book.

Priceless help

Kudos to Abu Dhabi police for providing timely medical assistance to the four-year-old Emirati girl and saving her life (‘Abu Dhabi Police save 4-year-old child’s life,’ Gulf News, March 30). The little girl, who sustained serious injuries in a run-over mishap on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation by the paramedical team in the nick of time and hence her life was saved. The effort and intervention of Capital police is truly laudable.

Value of life

Completing driving school will not give people experience in driving (‘Reducing minimum age for drivers not a solution: RTA official,’ Gulf News, March 30). Having self control, being responsible and knowing the value of life and property are equally important to being a safe driver.
