Need more fences
The installation of the new higher fencing is a great move by the authorities (‘Fencing no barrier for diehard jaywalkers,’ Gulf News, July 31). It will prevent further incidences of pedestrians being hit by cars, and it also offers peace of mind to drivers.
Some of these errant jaywalkers jump on the roads from almost anywhere to cross, even if it is in front of speeding vehicles. Furthermore, fencing should be also be installed on Taawun Road, Al Khan Road and in industrial areas of Sharjah.

Much anticipated
We are still waiting for the proposed foot bridge in front of Ansar Mall, which will be very convenient for the residents of Al Khan and Al Nahda.

Pray for their safety
There are many road accidents and we need to save these lives by putting up a proper pedestrian crossing. Whenever I pass through Sharjah and I see someone crossing the road, all I can do is pray that they reach the other side safely.

Bridges, then restrictions
Simple solution to this issue is to create more pedestrian bridges, but please make simple, low cost and easy to cross bridges. There is no point fining people who are crossing the busy streets without providing them with the basic facilities. It is my request to the Sharjah authorities to create bridges and then implement restrictions.

Look for solutions
Instead of complaining about jaywalking all the time, why don’t people try considering why do people have to jaywalk? If the authorities built a few pedestrian crossing bridges, so many lives could remain safe.
We need to stop complaining and look for solutions.

More convenient means
I agree with Anil Kumar. We need more pedestrian foot bridges or Metros in the UAE, mainly Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah as these are very busy areas. With fines and fences, jaywalking cannot be controlled. There needs to be more conveniences.

Risk area
The authorities need to have their attention drawn to E77 Road, from Shaikh Zayed Road towards the Green Community, as there are plenty of people crossing the road. The speed limit is 100km/h and the traffic is really heavy. This makes it highly dangerous for anyone trying to cross the road.

Both barricades and bridges
We are glad that the authorities are taking steps to prevent fatal accidents, but they should also consider that people who need to get to the other side of the road will have to walk miles in this scorching summer heat due to these barricades. As they have placed barricades, they should also build foot bridges. Only that will solve the problem.

Bridges coming soon
For the readers who are concerned about pedestrian facilities not being constructed in Sharjah, there are five pedestrian bridges currently under construction in the city with two near the National Paints road on ShAikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, one on King Faisal Road, one on Ittihad Road in front of Ansar Mall and one on King Abdul Aziz Road.

Not enough bridges
Jaywalking has been a huge issue for many years now. This has to be dealt with as a main priority. I don’t think the five foot bridges are adequate to meet the requirements of this fast growing city.

Begging for blessings
The death of this child is heartbreaking news (‘Gaza baby born to mother killed in airstrike dies,’ Gulf News, July 31). Rest in peace, little angel. She went without seeing this earth.

Stop the killing
May they both rest in peace. How cruel the US is for providing the ammunitions that killed these innocent beings. When will they stop this mass slaughter?

Devastating for the family
This is extremely sad and heart wrenching. It must be devastating for the family who first lost the child’s mother in the air strike and now their baby. These attacks on innocent civilians are absolutely barbaric and should cease at the earliest before more innocent children are killed in the name of war.

Hope it’s real
This really looks like a true live tweeting session (‘Farah_Gazan’s live tweets go viral,’ Gulf News, July 31). Investigating whether this is fake or reality is important. If this is to grab attentions of the viewers or to get fame, then it should be considered an offenCe and there should be action TAKEN against her. Hope this is not a lie and that the Gaza-Israel war stops.
