If you are driving around town with poorly maintained tyres, the good thing is that when caught by the Dubai Police, you will be warned and given a chance to change them. The bad thing is that not paying attention to your tyres means it could potentially lead to an accident. According to Dubai Police, which has launched a 45-day awareness campaign on tyre safety, people usually ignore this aspect of car maintenance. But this kind of negligence can prove be costly in more ways than one. Tyre safety is crucial and the Dubai Police have been consistently raising awareness on this. For example, this year alone, in the first six months, the number of drivers penalised for poor condition of tyres was 8,544. In 2013, there were 12,168 fines issued and in 2012, the numbers stacked up to 16,454. These numbers are by no means small and point to a trend that is danegrous. Tyre blowouts are extremely dangerous and can lead to loss of life of the driver and passengers, as well as impact on other vehicles’ safety. Ensuring tyres are good, therefore, is key to a safe journey.
