Never before have the rescued looked more energised than their rescuers. Call it the triumph of the human spirit. The ability to overcome all odds.
When the last of the 33 miners surfaces from the darkest depths of a coal mine in San Jose Copiapo in Chile their more than two-month ordeal would have ended and along with it a national crisis that began when 700,000 tonnes of rock collapsed on August 5, sealing the men in a virtual tomb. These miners have captivated the world with their strength of character and endurance even as their loved ones were ready to give up hope. Binding them together in their perseverance to survive was a unity that was forged out of the most challenging conditions that anyone could have ever imagined, let alone survive. Through it all they stood by each other. The most fitting tribute that should be paid to these men is that we should celebrate life as they did. The moral fibre that they exhibited should inspire everybody in their country and millions of those who watched them on TV as they inspired each other to live.
Fortune favours the brave and these men rode their luck till the very end.
