Recent developments in Libya are disturbing as they reflect a division amongst major segments in the country. Representatives of about 100 militias from western Libya have come together and formed a new federation. They announced that they will not give up their arms and that the new government — the National Transitional Council (NTC) — is close to jeopardising the revolution. This group has called for a speedy process of reform — which has been the demand of others as well.

There is no doubt that there is a responsibility that the NTC holds when it comes to running the affairs of the country. Libya has witnessed a deep change with the fall of the previous regime and the process of nation-building will be demanding and challenging in the coming decades. Hence, it is high time for the NTC to move towards achieving its given promises before people's patience runs out.
