Lessons to learn from road horror
Motorists must be trained to drive in bad weather and fined when breaking rules.
The accident on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai road near the Ghantoot area brings to the fore once again the importance of issues pertaining to safety and driving, especially on the highways connecting various parts of the country.
The horrific and tragic accident, which has caused death and injury to a number of individuals, was due to various reasons, with the dense fog being a major factor.
The loss is immeasurable - in terms of casualty toll as well as the disruption and delays caused by the closure of parts of the highway. But what is critical here is to re-study the means by which the safety of the roads is ensured, especially with the recent introduction of the black points system.
Establishing and implementing strict laws is one part of the process. It is also necessary to train motorists to drive in hazardous weather, and heavily fined when they break the rules.
