With the Twenty20 Champions League set to commence next month it would be interesting to see how many of India's cricketers deemed injured, or unfit, during the series against England suddenly get fit to play again. At stake will be a lot of money and sometimes cold, hard cash can provide instant inspiration.

For the moment India's Test cricketers have been comprehensively thrashed by England to surrender the No 1 ranking and, by the looks of it, many young careers would have failed to take off thanks to some intense examination by the English team who played like a well-drilled unit.

The Indian cricketers, on the other hand, have simply played too much. It is time for prioritisation. The onus for this rests with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). A professional cricketer's career needs to be managed competently and the BCCI, in its quest to fill its coffers with tonnes of cash, is slowly killing the golden goose.
