The saga of trying to wrest supremacy continues in Indian cricket with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Lalit Modi fighting tooth and nail to salvage their reputations in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) fiasco.

For those watching from the sidelines it is turning out to be an irony of sorts simply because, for the first time, instead of players being under the spotlight the officials entrusted with running the game have come under a scanner.

Good governance, honesty and integrity should be the buzzwords in the BCCI today, but the Board and Modi are falling short of the expectations of the key stakeholders in the game — the millions of Indian cricket fans. Despite the money power that they wield, often unashamedly, the BCCI must realise that Indian cricket is suffering a serious moral crisis. The highhanded manner of its officials and Lalit Modi has ensured that India's biggest sport is being held hostage by those who administered it.
