The abundance of used car showrooms in the heart of a city, especially in a busy residential area could create a number of problems — parking being one of them. Environment, especially pollution, is another, not to mention the traffic and the daily irritation for commuters trying to find a way out of the crowded locality. That’s why, in an ideal urban environment, these two things are usually located in different locations.

Used cars is big business across the UAE. But as cities expanded, designated areas for sales of used cars have not followed suit. In Sharjah, used car showrooms have been doing brisk business from their hub in the Abu Shagara district, which is also a busy residential area. With the development of the city and the business of used car showrooms, it is important to allocate an area for such activity away from residential areas – a matter that the authorities concerned need to look into. Establishing an automotive zone is the best approach as it will address the needs of all in a single area where buyers, sellers and exporters come together without causing any disturbance to any residential area.
