Competition is good for everyone

It is to be hoped that residents will soon be able to choose their service providers

Last updated:

Both UAE telecom operators du and etisalat have announced that their services — broadband and television connections, among others — will be available to residents and visitors to Burj Dubai when the building opens early next month.

This may well be the first time that some residents in the UAE have the ability to exercise their right to choose which telecom operator will provide their services. Until now, each of the two operators had generally only offered their services in different communities.

There can only be true competition between companies when consumers are able to freely exercise their right to choose their service provider. Competition is good as it forces companies to improve their services and lower prices, or lose the support of customers to better businesses.

It looks like du and etisalat are ready to compete for customers. Now residents of the whole of the UAE must be offered the opportunity to exercise their right to choose.
